Match your team talents with the local needs in Mozambique.

Caryl Bryan with Chicuque Staff
Chicuque Rural Hospital (CRH) serves approximately 250,000 people, with approximately 200 beds. The Ministry of Health of Moçambique and the United Methodist Church run it under a joint operating agreement.
The hospital offers basic services in dentistry, pediatrics, infectious diseases (principally AIDS/HIV, diarrhea and malaria), basic surgery, physical therapy (with emphasis on pediatrics and orthopedics) and maternity care.
The primary task of teams will be to assist the hospital staff in enhancing their ministry to the local population. Although there are many possibilities for our ministry, we work within the priorities of the hospital.
Location: Chicuque Rural Hospital is located on the shore of the Indian Ocean in Inhambane Province, and is a seven-hour drive north from the capital of Maputo.
Teams and Task
Tasks for VIM teams may include wide possibilities in health care provision and support, public health projects, or construction and refurbishment. 10 to 12 months lead time important. Most teams go during the local winter, July – August – September when it is cooler and fewer insects. VIM trips are typically for 14 to 17 days. Team sizes will be 4 to 15 people. Team members may include health care professionals and others without special health care skills to act in support of health care professionals or on construction or refurbishment work.
Accommodations
Teams usually are accommodated at Chicuque South Guest House. Team members sleep in rooms with 2 to 6 single beds; bedding, dresser, chair and mosquito netting provided. Indoor plumbing and hot showers provided.
Food: Most meals are taken at the Guest House, prepared by the Guest House staff. Food is a combination of American/European and Moçambican styles, most of which is procured locally, including seafood.
Activities and Sightseeing: Teams worship with one or more local UMC congregations. Most teams will visit the United Methodist Mission Station at Cambine, approximately 30 miles from Chicuque (Seminary, orphanage, high school, vocational school). Local sights include secluded Indian Ocean beaches, the market town of Maxixe, the old port of Inhambane City, and fishing activity on Chicuque Beach, and sights and UMC ministries in Maputo.
Cost : A 17 day trip costs approximately $4,000, including airfare, meals, transportation, translators, housing, sightseeing, and a contribution for the construction or health care task of the team. Does not include passport, vaccinations or other incidentals.
